Richard Noel has always been a busy bee. The British entrepreneur moved from the Channel Island of Jersey to the French peninsula of Brittany 20 years ago to start a garden business there. He then also started keeping bees. More than 200 hives later, Richard has invested in the construction of a professional bee house with FRISOKIT for the hobby that eventually became his job and his life’s work.

Something that all beekeepers agree on? According to Richard Noel, any beekeeper will tell you that can never have enough storage space for your business. The British beekeeper lives with his family and several bee colonies in France, in the Breton countryside.
After starting a garden business, Richard decided to dedicate his heart and soul to beekeeping and honey production. The enthusiastic beekeeper even has a successful YouTube channel, where he shares tips and insights about his wonderful profession!
“I was looking for a professional workspace that was tailored to my needs,” says Richard. “Beekeepers need a lot of dry storage space to produce honey. I had decided in advance that I wanted to build a large production facility with an extraction room, a dry storage room, a heating room, a changing room, an office and much more.”
With over 200 production hives and about 120 core colonies annually, Richard, as an enthusiastic beekeeper, is now working full-time on honey production.

For the construction of his production facility, Richard searched online for DIY steel kits. “I was immediately interested in Frisokit’s Delta+ DIY steel building kit. Obviously, I already had an of what the building should look like. I wanted windows and additional access doors to make my honey easier to transport. And I also needed a floor heating system. I reviewed everything with Frisokit and they explained to me what the options were.”
“I broke up my gym and pool to turn it into a floor heating system,” Richard laughs. “However, with my Frisokit DIY structure, I’ve traded one kind of luxury for another. This building has a tremendously positive impact on my business. Not only is it close to my home, but it’s also easy to tailor to the specific needs of my business.”
Good price, fast delivery and personal service
FRISOKIT’s DIY steel building kits are all designed and produced at the company’s site in Wijnegem, near Antwerp. However, the company is not limited to Belgium. “I’m kind of cosmopolitan,” Richard laughs. “If I can find something somewhere with good quality for a good price, I’ll just go for it. I did not hesitate for a moment to contact a Belgian company for the construction of my bee house.”
“I bombarded Frisokit with questions, but they were all answered with the utmost care,” says Richard. “I run my business abroad and contacted a company in yet another country, so I needed some help with specific details. However, Frisokit was always happy to help. The local construction company that helped me assemble the Delta+ building was also very satisfied with the collaboration.”
The time between the first contact and the delivery in Brittany was less than 6 months. “Frisokit gave me a delivery date and respected it. Just after delivery, we had some problems with some large panels that were damaged, but they had added spare parts that allowed us to put up the building right away.”

Ultimately, the building was erected in 13 days. Richard hired 2 construction workers for this, because he had to take care of his bees and honey production. “The moment the nectar flows in, you really have to be present,” explains the beekeeper. “Keeping bees is more work than it appears. You also need to clean, make the frames, prepare, organise and more.”
“Frisokit more than met my expectations,” adds Richard. “The quality of the kit is great and the instructions are very clear. At first I was surprised how small the kit was when it was delivered. I said: ‘Is my entire DIY building in there?’. I couldn’t believe it. But after a few days, I gradually saw this beautiful large building in light steel emerge.”

“Although there is still some work to be done, today I have a beautiful building in my backyard. There’s another mezzanine in there, and I want some more storage downstairs, which will hopefully be ready by next winter.
